If you are new to this whole new fad of following award ceremonies, then you better get used to waking up early(If you live in the east) or staying up late at night.
The Golden Globe Awards which never helps in predicting the winners of the Oscar, is a big achievement none the less. And like every year it is held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Unlike the Oscars, the Globes always gives it’s hosting opportunities to actors from all industries, and by this I am referring to TV. Yes, 30 Rock’s Tina Fey and Parks and Recreation’s Amyb Poehler hosted this year’s awards wand were just charming with their one-liners and humorous intros.
Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow’s snubs for Best Director at the Oscars should have come as a surprise to many. But they were shown acknowledgement for their talent here at the Globes as both were nominated. But the award, as predicted went to actor turned director, Ben Affleck for his brilliant Argo. Only three-films old, Affleck is already touted to become a legend one day.
Although, Daniel-Day Lewis took home the Globe for Best Actor as predicted, Jessica Chastain winning the globe came as a surprise to many considering the Academy hatred towards Zero Dark Thirty for it’s depiction of torture. Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence took home the awards for Best Actor and Actress in a Musical/Comedy for their performances in Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook respectively.
Homeland, the highly sought after drama series from Showtime scored big this year winning the globes for Best Televison Series-Drama and acting honors for it’s leads, Claire Danes and Damian Lewis.
Ang Lee’s visual epic, Life of Pi which is second with 11 nominations at the Oscars disappointed here with only one award which went to Mychael Danna for her background Score.
Modern Family which dominated at the Emmy’s, failed to score at all, here at the globes. Predictions for Best Television Series- Musical/Comedy went South after the globe was given to Girls which is only in it’s second season.
Lincoln, Life of Pi and Argo are strong contenders for the Best Picture Oscar and is most likely to go to the Steven Spielberg Biopic. But against all odds, Ben Affleck’s Argo took home the last globe of the night that saw George Clooney on stage, happy as ever. There is a reason they have a category separately for Musical or Comedy, even though is usually dominated only by Comedy every year.
Tom Hooper’s British Musical, Les Miserables beat the more likely Silver Linings Playbook to bag the globes for Best Movie-Musical/Comedy.
