It’s that time of the time when good movies are usually overlooked and formulaic movies which give you a sense of goodness go on to big some big awards. Yes, the Superbowl of Cinema is back.
For the past couple of years, it has only been a two-horse race: last year it was The Artist vs The Descendants and the year before that it was an undeserved win for The King’s Speech over The clever Social Network. But something seems to have changed this year, there is no one strong contender. Considering the fact that all the award tailored movies released only at the end of the of the year, there were no movies which were overlooked unlike the previous years.
This year seems to be a race between 7-8 movies which are battling out for a place in the top 5 in many Best Film Categories(except the Oscars). Critics aren’t playing favourites considering the fact that most of the movies which are award contenders aren’t even feel good movies. Maybe the Spielberg’ s bipoic, Lincoln and maybe even Argo might attract the jury but every other movie on the list isn’t so.
So that brings it back to me, I am going start my countdown to the Oscars with my reviews of these so-called contenders. This list will include the likes of Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, Lincoln, Les Miserables, Amour, Silver Linings Playbook and Seven Psychopaths( not an Oscar Contender but a damn good movie )
First off in the series Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained
Good Luck at the movies
